One step forward, two steps back.
I installed the prop yesterday, then put the cowlings back on just to see
how it all looked together. The Catto prop is beautiful, and I am sure will
pull the plane through the air with the greatest of ease. But it interfered
with the cowling.
You can sort of see in the picture that the porp is very thick, and the hub
is not the most aft portion. The back of the blades actually are behind the
prop hub, and hit the front of the intake. It isn't a real big deal, I
ordered a spacer today from Saber ($400). I only needed about 3/8 inch, but
the smallest spacer is 1", so that's what I got.
For those that haven't yet fit their cowling and are planning on using the
Catto prop, you can save yourself the extra expense. Don't use the aprox
1/4" aft of the prop flange as the measurement for your cowling, take into
account the prop itself.
Hopefully this saves someone some time and money.
