Hey, Kelly, can you post this for me on the flyrotary list?  Thanks!  As you can see, I've sent this to both you and to the list, but it won't show up on the list.

Hey, all.  I am using a thing called a "gas caddy" that was originally designed for boat owners.  It holds 28 gallons, is mounted with 2 wheels and a handle, and is primarily oriented to gravity feed - like you were on a dock and filling up your boat.  You fill it up in the horizontal position, but empty it in the vertical position.

I plan to use my pickup to fill and transport it to the airport.  Then, since I'm flying a low wing airplane (a Glasair), the truck bed is high enough to do the gravity feed thing.  I bought the hand pump, but it is too cumbersome to use in any practical way.  It could be fitted with a 12v pump, I'm sure, but they are way more expensive than I want to deal with.  It was a little pricey to begin with.  If anyone has a line on a reasonable 12v pump, I'm listening.

I've already discussed this with the FBO and airport management and neither have any problem with it.  I'm in California.  I also had a chat with a highway patrolman about it and he also said he had no problem with it.

This item can be seen here:

and is available at several discount on-line stores.  I had it shipped to my address in California with no problem.

Best Regards,

Steve Thomas

Good idea – but guess what.  6-gal gas containers are against the law in California; so they’re not sold here, and if you order from somewhere else, they won’t ship them here.  Not like there would be any chance of getting the required “written permission” from the airport director.
