Starter is available anywhere starters are sold (NAPA etc).  Ask for a 1988 Manual trans, non turbo RX-7 starter. This info is in the installation guide.  I got mine at www.Rockauto.com for around $98 as I recall but that was awhile back. 
No leads on a lower cost flex plate at this time but maybe someone else knows.
