Lynn E. Hanover I don't understand the .09 retail profit. We are having a gas war here now and Giant grocery store is selling reg unleaded for $3.39 while Sheetz 6 miles away is at $3.55.

Some convenience markets will actually sell gasoline at cost - or even as a loss leader - in order to get customers in the door. Some of them even conveniently forget to reload the receipt paper in the pumps, so that you have to go inside to get your receipt. They make their money on the "convenience" items: overpriced milk, soda, candy, et al.
