Most folks had drinking wells and a cistern where rain water from the roof was directed. Most people had septic fields behind the house. Kids played outside from dawn to dusk. Every kid had an antibody package that would keep 100 modern day kids alive. Now we have central water. So one mistake and thousands can be injured. We caught Mumps and Chicken pox, and some un-catalogued maladies. We have the real antibodies for those now, tailored to our bodies. Not some lame ass idea cooked up in a chicken or horse. Now if there is a small pox epidemic, who will my money be on? Old people. If you don't teach history, you repeat it. If you don't teach finance and economics your kids live in your house until they die. If you don't teach math, you buy all of your stuff from people who do teach it. If you allow the NEA to protect teachers who cannot spell, construct a sentence, or know a thing about history, what can the students learn? If we never again put a pedophile in jail for life without parole, when will your kid be able to explore his/her world on bicycle without an escort?*Never * if you had to think about that. We rode inner tubes down the river two counties away and hitchhiked back. We jumped off of bridges to go swimming in brown water. I would ride my bike 12 miles each way just to see an airplane, and maybe twice in a summer a pilot would give me a ride. If you want a lot of something you throw money at it. If you want something to go away, tax it a bunch. So the oil companies cannot drill where the oil is known to be, they import it. So the price of oil over time switches from the cost of drilling and transporting here, to the price of buying it on the world market. Now over 70% of all of our oil is at world market price. So then world market price goes out of sight, and most of the population (with a US education) discovers that gasoline has become expensive, it must be those oil companies with those huge profits, ripping us off. Years ago when oil companies went out of business on a regular basis, none of those folks said, hey we need that oil, let us help these guys keep drilling and feed their families. Nope nobody said that did they? Now the oil company makes about 10 to 12 cents per gallon. The retail pump guy makes about 9 cents. The oil companies return on investment is about 10%. The oil companies are owned by share holders. Most shares are held by mutual funds and institutional investors. So if you have a mutual fund, or an insurance policy, or have a 401K or similar, you are the oil company. If you want to collect taxes based on return on investment, take down Microsoft. 25% return on investment. So what exactly is the reasoning for taxing the oil companies more than the 45% they pay now? Because they deliver every single drop of fuel you want to a convenient location near you. Because they maintain billions upon billions of dollars worth of infrastructure across this country and around the world? Because they employ a million of your countrymen, who all pay taxes just like you? And if we cannot get a permit to build a new refinery anywhere we can only expand an existing refinery, we cannot process all of the crude we import, and have not for years, we by refined product from outside the country, in many formulations required by the beloved EPA tailored to suite each area of the country. And does refined product cost more per barrel than just the crude price? Oh, baby does it cost more................ And this idea that any corporation in the US or anywhere else can be taxed in any amount is just laughable. No corporation, company, partnership, or retail entity of any kind, pays taxes in any form you can recognize. Only individual citizens can pay taxes. Sorry to point that out, and I do get some nasty arguments over that point. All corporations and other retail entities, only collect a government proclaimed amount of taxes from you the citizen on behalf of the government. The only source of funds for the retail outlet/ corporation/business, is you the citizen. So it is written, so it shall be done. There is no tax, but upon the people. So if we add a big tax load onto all of the oil companies, where do we think evidence of the new tax would appear? Why on the gas pump. And then who will pay the new tax installed by the genius you voted for in November? Why you will, and I will. And we will have even less to spend on flying, and building and maybe an extra job just to stay even, so little group mail, and fewer Emails. Remember if you want less of something tax it...........................And the beloved government will have that much more control over your life and my life.
