Thanks Kelly,

I just placed an order with Mazdatrix this morning for the clutch parts
I need.  I bought their Centerforce I pressure plate and clutch disk,
new pilot bearing (didn't know it wasn't a bushing), alignment tool,
and a few other pieces I thought I might need.  Maybe the transmission
is OK.

On a related subject, the gear shift is located about 10-12 inches back
with a round shaft connecting to the shifting mechanism inside the
transmission.  Would it be difficult, or even possible to shorten that
shaft?  I think the stock location will be too far back in the Alpine.

Bob,
I still have the transmission from the 91 RX7 that your flywheel came from........I will check the side play for you tomorrow..........

From past experience with manual transmissions the input shaft
had what one would consider a lot of play at the pilot end of the
shaft then not supported by the pilot bearing.......By the way the
RX7 pilot bearing is an actual bearing and not a bushing.......By
all means I would replace it..........It can be a bear to get out........

There is a special puller sold by the Madza part suppliers but it
is pricy........Some on the list have ground them out but be careful
not to enlarge or make the pilot bore out of round..........FWIW
