The Oil Metering Pump on the front cover. Steals crank case oil
and meters tiny amounts into the carb float bowl on early models and
directly into the rotor housings after that. The apex seals need to get
a slight amount of lube to survive.
Some choose to eliminate the pump in some way and just premix
some amount of 2 cycle oil into the fuel.
Or, premix the oil.
You can also open the oil gallery that leads to the OMP and TIG
weld a dash 3 or dash 4 AN fitting in the gallery. Plug the gallery at
the front iron, and run a hose from the fitting to a bottle on the
firewall to hold a 2 cycle oil supply. Richard Sohn used to make an
adaptor that bolts on with the stock pump to do this operation, but I
think he has stopped production for lack of time.
It is customary in writing to show the body of an acronym after
its first use in a paper, using capitals that align with the acronym.
The OMP (Oil Metering Pump) is used for....etc.
Lynn E. Hanover
The advantage is that you can run a synthetic oil in the sump
and not have the rotor housings gumming up.
