Yes this is something I have been thinking about as well. As I understand George Anderson with his top mounted Dodge 318 carb used the 3X3 aluminum box for a manifold but he filled the insides with foam and tunneled out individual internal runners all later glassed and epoxied. So this is something I have to work out. Perhaps Ernest's idea with the bicycle innertube as a jig to mold individual runners may work here.

backfiring was something I had thought may be an is issue as well with the long runner full of mixture
 
I am counting on stainless shielding between exhaust and intake for sure.
