Dennis & Collective,

Funny you should mention another rotary round-up.  EAA Chapter 12 in Houston, at this months meeting, was just discussing this topic and the viability of our chapter sponsoring this sort of event.  They have charged me and my buddy David Staten with determining an interest.  We were planning on making it more of an Alternative Engine Round-up, Fly-in since many of the issues could be similar between the various platforms. (of course if we want numbers it will be for alternate engines and RV's....those RV guys will come to anything with RV in the name <g>)

Not sure about the exact time of year, but if it is between about April and October in Houston it may be deemed the "Hotter and Humider than Hell annual Alternative Engine Proof of Cooling Concepts and Other Stuff  (and RV??) Fly-in and Round-up.  Hmmmm, kinda catchy. ;-)  Should be interesting on a flyer.

I was at the Round-up at Bill Elsick's place as well as a nice Velocity Symposium north of Dallas last year (about 15 flying Velo's).  Both really nice events.  We would be looking at Ellington (EFD), La Porte (T41), Clover Field/Pearland International (LVJ) or Houston Southwest (AXH) as potential locations.  All very suitable and nice venues...three very near NASA, for those interested.  Also, very close to Hobby (HOU), Houston's second big airport for commercial flights.

Y'all's interest in us pursuing this should prove compelling to us following through with this event.

What say ye????

TIA.

All the best,

Chris

Sorry I didn't respond to your mail sooner.  I'm doing some  "honey due" projects in the house to "pay back" some of the time I spent building my plane!  I really want to make it to Sun and Fun but only if my Better Half also goes there.  Last fall when I went to the Rotary RoundUp I was "delighted" to see a new $3000 stove in the kitchen when I returned.  (I don't know what was wrong with the 30 year old stove we had - most of it still worked)  I got to spend a week modifying the kitchen to accommodate the stove.

As for Charlie's suggestion to fly in formation with the neighbors RV 7A with the 180 hp Lycoming and compare fuel use - I hope to do that when we have another lunch fly-out to Stephenville for barbecue.

Is anyone interested in going to or hosting a Mid-Winter Rotary fly-in?  We have two rotaries flying here in the Austin area and two or more in the Dallas area.  Probably six or eight others being built in Texas also!!  The weather can be good or bad here in the winter.  Today the high will be 68 deg. clear and no wind.

Hey! Way to go! Dennis.

Sounds to me you have had a good 60 hours to prove the air worthiness of your installation.   Since the Hushmaster has been good for 40 hours on my old turbo block 13B with the strongest exhaust pulses, I suspect it will last a good long time on your Renesis.

Great looking airframe and paint job as well.  Hope you make it to Sun & Fun!
