Ah, Thomas
I have wrestled with that for years. I have two
turbo sitting in my shop. I've even have experience turbocharging
two autos from the ground up.
However, every time, I think of the
weight/ work/cost involved and then consider that once airborne I always
throttle back to an 8 - 9 gph burn rate (or less), there is just no way I can
justify it to myself. If I wanted to cruise at oxygen altitudes, like
some, it would be different, but try as I might I just can't convince myself
that the drawbacks are worth the benefits (for my flying style). If I were
on the West Coast or even in Colorado, I could probably justify it to overcome
the density altitude effect - but here at sea level - well, as I said
{:>)
I really got a bit excited back a few years ago when they
came out with a turbo that did not require oil or coolant lines - but, that
apparently was not successful That would have minimized the work and would
have been pretty light - so might have tried it.
Leave the Hot-rod stuff to you younger guys
{:>)

...."to give the exhaust a turbine sound of its ownl {:>).
".....
