Ed,
Indeed talk is cheap, however I've had to spend a bit so far and my poor allowance only goes so far. I've been bucking for an increase but the boss ( she who must be obeyed) won't give me one. The problem is I've still got two apprentices living at home - you know family first etc.

I will get onto it soon though, but I haven't got a single engine complete to test it on - I designed it for the single but with slight mods it will also do the 2 rotor.

You were on the right track Ed, but you can't put exposed edges to the rotary exhaust - I see the holes in the cones as exposed edges.

I have some photo's somewhere but can't find them, as soon as I do I will post them. It does look spectacular!!

  Hey, George

Talk is cheap {:>), I want to know when we get to the meaty part about how well it works?

I've done my experimenting with exhausts - every time I got one part of the problem fixed - like sound loudness, I experienced a failure/draw back someplace else - of course, could just be my ineptitude.  I really thought I had it when I put the 1/8" thick discs in the tubes - it did really knock the sound down, but the exhaust  pulses broke the welds loose and the discs spun fast enough to give the exhaust a turbine sound of its ownl {:>).

Looking forward to seeing the results, George

Ed.

Ed,
I believe if Dave Leonard can now 'see the light' through the muffler - it may be an indicator that the sound waves have broken through the joining cones. In any event it will only get louder at the passage gets bigger.
I figured this would be the weakest link in the HushPower design as it concentrates all the energy into the smallest area, holes in the cones also weaken the area - not so with our design.

Ed,
Reflective cone theory is what Bill Jepson and I have designed into our joint venture exhaust design  - although I haven't finished it so I don't know how well it works.
The principle is to maintain a clear passage for the exhaust flow but redirect the sound waves (which are energy) therefore turning the sound into heat. In our design the heat is dissipated with cool air flow through the exhaust and further cool air around the exhaust.

However this is not a cheap exhaust to make, as mine is assembled out of a number of cones ( 1.6mm SS). I think the cost of the cones came to $200 and then there's the welding. There is also the fact that it is also not light because of the thickness of the material.

The bottom line is that cones by their nature redirect sound energy into heat. The idea is to not have a direct exit for the sound energy - this has been achieved in this design by having the sound waves inter the center of a cone which is blocked-off and is redirected through the holes and redirected out.

So the theory in this design ( HushPower) is sound - excuse the pun. The packing material merely protects the light outer skin. There will be a tremendous amount of heat in the inner chambers so I don't know how long they will last, maybe there thick enough to take it ? However if their cheap enough just replace them.

It looks like Hushpower has been spun off from FlowMaster.  Here is the URL for the Hushpower site.
