Bill,

Here is a cutaway of the Hushpower II Resonator.  I'll have to get the dimensions this weekend.  The dimensions you quoted are pretty close, but you may need a heat shield, or some Zetex to protect the fiberglass.

Mark,

When you get your resonator, could you try and take a picture up inside it, or somehow describe how it looks?  I am wondering how it is so quiet.  Also, could you verify the measurements?  I think that they are 2.5 inch in/out, 12 inch body, 17 inch overall, 4 inches thick and 5 inches wide.  What does it weigh?  I assume that you bought the polished stainless one??

The ends appear to taper from the inlet to the wide part…I wonder what that dimension is…length of wide part, length to end of taper…

I am thinking of cuttin' and tapein' a cardboard box around my exhaust to see if I can squeeze it in without havein' to beat a ding in it somewhere!!

Thanks,

Bill B

Mark,

Thanks, but I will probably go with the Hushpower as well.

I am really interested in hearing some performance numbers for your plane as soon as you have some??!!  I am expecting it to be a real rip snorter with that clean Lancair airframe and hairy chested 3 rotor!

Climb rate, with engine numbers, cruise, with engine numbers, GPH??

Bill,

I forgot to mention that once I have the Hushpower II installed, you can have the "auger" muffler if you want it.  It isn't the quietest on the block, but it is lots quieter than an open header rotary.

Bill,

The body of the Hushpower II Resonator is only 12" long.  Cut the inlet down to about 1/2" and it should fit right in there.

Bill,
Yes, the "auger muffler" is still hanging in there after 20 hrs of ritualistic torture.  It looks like it has what it takes to "take a licking and keep on ticking".  The only problem is that it isn't as quite as I had hoped.  So, I have decided to try a Hushpower II resonator.  And it WILL be inside the cowl.  I will not hang a muffler (even a pretty SS one) under the belly of my airplane.  If you do that to your Legacy I will have to rip it off and beat you with it.

Thanks, Mark.

Are you going to hang it under the plane or try and install it inside the cowl?  How is your exhaust insert holding up?  Has it blown out yet?  I assume that the largest inlet for the resonator is 2.5… I didn't see anything larger.  I suppose I will have to neck mine down, but that will add to the length, so I may have to hang it under the plane.

Bill,
I just ordered one.  Got it off ebay.  Here is the description...

2.50" HUSHPOWER II RESONATOR - FLOWMASTER 12512300

Did anyone happen to get the part number of Dennis' muffler at Tracy's fly in?  I seem to remember that it was a resonator, not a muffler.  I would like to see if I can find one but have not found anything that looks like the one he has.  My exhaust is 3" and his is 2 ½ , so I will either have to find a slightly larger size, or neck my exhaust down to go through it.

Help would be appreciated…my engine is LOUD!

Thanks,

Bill B
