I have the James cowl on my RV -7A.  My propeller is a Catto 2 blade with a very wide cord near the spinner.  To get the rear of the prop to clear the air inlet I used a 2 inch spacer on the RD-1C drive to move the prop foward..  I used a 14 inch spinner from Aircraft Spruce and extended the nose of the cowl about 1 inch to match the spinner.  The added cowl extension made a great looking transitiion from the cowl to the spinner.

For you guys who have "gone before" and installed a SJ Rotary Cowling, did you find that the ring cut out on the top was actually set back compared to the shark mouth intake lip on the bottom?  I went and had my cowling cut out virtually perfectly on the firewall side to give me a uniform 3/8 inch gap between the cowling and spinner and then I happened to pull my IV0 prop through a rotation and it hit the intake opening!  Since everything I have ever read says to adjust your cowling to the spinner back plate I couldn't believe they built this cowling with the intake sitting out further than the front top opening...
