Sparks - Mode 8 is HOT
Well, after doing research, I find that I should never fire the coils
without being connected to a grounded spark plug... because the spark
has to go somewhere.... Doh! Hope I didn't hurt anything!!!

While a few of you are having a problem with not enough spark, I am
having the opposite problem. I put the battery in tonight and started
to run through systems checks. The test modes in the EC2 are really
nice features. Injectors and new injector disable switches seem to be
working fine. The problem is with the coils... Way too much
spark if that is possible.
I planned to test the LS1 coils 1 at a time but quickly found that 2 of
the coils are arcing past the rubber boots of the spark plug wire, one more
than the other. I thought maybe the rubber had gotten old (though not
that old) so I swapped in one of the wires that was not leaking - but
that did not solve the problem. I took all the wires off entirely, and
sparks were flying out of the socket and arcing across several inches to
reach the control harness for the coil. The other coils were not doing
that, though they were making normal sparks when connected to a spark plug.
I assume this is not normal. Does anyone know of a condition that
would make the coil voltage go through the roof like that? The coils
did get a good dousing of coolant 1.5 years ago. Also, I notice that
the coils are drawing 3 amps even when not running. Time for some new
coils?
