FYI the comment from=20 Mazda is that loosing the trailing plugs, on a split firing loses 25%.=20 Loseing the leading plugs causes a 75% power loss. Depending on=20 airframe -75% may not be flyable. The racers notice no change in power=20 firing both plugs at the same time. Firing split WILL improve=20 efficiency slightly. It all depends on what you want to do. Two cheap=20 units might make me do a redundant setup using both systems to fire=20 both plugs. You would have to have alternate holes (4 cylinder) wired=20 to the same coil anyway if that will work. The firing order is similar=20 to a 4 cylinder but the #1 would fire chamber #1 and #2 would fire=20 chamber #2 which is normal. Then #3 (4 cyllinder) would fire chamber #1=20 and #4 would fire chamber # 2. Unless you were going to use one of the=20 early systems with a distributor. If you planed on using C.O.P. you=20 would be forced to cross wire them. This is my biggest worry when using=20 a system not designed specifically for the rotary. I'm not sure if=20 wasted spark units would work at all. There is no reason a automotive=20 system wouldn't work, IF they can run the coils alternately. The=20 question I have is if the #3 coil lead is "ON" while the #1 is firing=20 to allow longer rise time. If it is, electronically done this way I=20 don't know if the unit would work at all. I'm hoping it would because=20 I'd love to use a inexpensive system on my 20B at least to mock up my=20 cooling. Probably Tracy's unit later. This is a problem for many=20 transplanted car systems. Because other than the original Mazda unit=20 few of the systems would deal with the multiple injection and ignition=20 events into the same chamber. They have a trigger circuit if I recall correctly. The >=20 draw on the trigger shouldn't be much. You could run 2 boxes if you >=20 want, but only 1 would be needed.=A0 > Bill Jepson=A0 I believe what you're saying is to use the EDIS-4 coil pack. It drives=20 two plugs per side, and I could just fire the leading and trailing at=20 the same time.=A0 =A0 It's workable...and simple. But I loose the redundancy and the split=20 timing. While the benefits of the latter are questionable, the former=20 is not, especially since I'll be using used components.=A0 =A0 In the event of a power outage, or computer failure, the sparks will=20 run independantly. I'm going to run an extra, manual-valve controlled,=20 gravity fed fuel line to the intake that will let me "pour' fuel into=20 the intake. That's my backup to the injectors. My previous calculations=20 for endurance bus alternator out event was 20Amps. These modifications=20 will help me push it down closer to the <10 that I want it to be.=A0 =A0 --=A0 Homepage: http://www.flyrotary.com/=A0 Archive and UnSub:=20 http://mail.lancaironline.net:81/lists/flyrotary/List.html=A0 ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone.
