The oil is normally about an inch ABOVE the oil pan top in the RX-8. It has caused a bit of oil foaming problems and gives false low oil warnings at higher speeds (>80 mph) in the RX-8. Mazda fixed this problem by some unknown means (didn't replace the pan). I used an RX-7 pan on my Renesis because I didn't like the 'look' of the RX-8 oil level. This require some mods to the pan.
