I have what I believe is an RD-1A and I would like to get another plate for it that will move the starter to the side (from the bottom) so I can gain some additional space to hang my rads (ala. Dennis Haverlah's example w/ SJ "rotary" cowling).  Does Tracy sell the adapter plate or do I need to pursue one from a different vendor?

Doug;

Tracy doesn’t provide a plate for a side mount starter; but you can modify the stock plate relatively easily.  I mounted mine on the ‘plug’ side as shown in the photos; using the existing mounting bolt locations.  It required drilling a new hole for the starter nose, and drilling a hole for the bolt in the starter flange; and then cutting some excess off the plate where the original hole is.  I did careful measuring, drilled the starter flange myself and took the plate to a machine shop for the big hole in the plate.  You could drill that yourself with a 2 1/8” (I think) hole saw, but of course if you err, a replacement plate is about $75.

I looked for the sketch I made for the machinist, but I can’t find it.
