Hi Rusty, yes, 304 stainless is more difficult to weld and the material is more brittle. Not that any of these traits can be overcome but 4130 is just plain more durable and forgiving.

Thanks for the comments.  I haven't quite gotten to the point of deciding what I'll use yet, though I do have the engine mount plate done.  Once I get the gyro frame in front of me, I'll be able to do some real scheming.
