I just want to thank everyone for the input on the cowl choice.  After weighing and debating asthetics, boundry layer effects, drag penalty, and ease of creation I ended up with a modified smiley cowl.  Foam core is done and I started laying up the glass today...  Here it is before the first lay-up.
