Beats me, George.

I presume that Butch has his propeller back in his possession - I don't seem to be in the loop anymore.

Ed,
Who has Butch's low cost electric variable pitch system, for testing NOW? This fiasco seems to be going on forever!

Good point, Rusty.  When is too much performance really too much {:>).  I would certainly be interested in  a light weight, inexpensive variable pitch prop.  Heck, I even developed a controller for an electric prop that you could preset "optimum" prop rpms for take-off, climb, cruise and descent.  Unfortunately it never got tested and the intended prop is apparently now in limbo.

Additionally, with his RV-4 hitting over 2000 fpm ROC with a fix pitch wooden prop, I would surmise that he probably did see much personal benefit from adding extra weight, incurring the additional cost of any type of CS prop.  Just my guess of course.

For something there's no need for, I sure hear him dreaming about how nice a CS prop would be on his RV-8 :-)
