It is very unlikely that I will be able to produce high quality e-shafts.  I am not nearly experienced enough as a machinist. Machining is a hobby that I have only pursued for a couple of  years and I have Grand Canyon size holes in my skill set.   I do have access to some nice equipment and I am interested in trying....  as part of my self education.

Rusty,
Like I said to Jerry, I've done all the research up to the point of manufacture and I will pass this on to him. It won't be too much of a problem once good quality e-shafts are available at a reasonable price. I'm hoping Jerry  will rise to the challenge. With Richard working on the end housings, who knows what will eventuate!

I believe the side seal surface is cast iron and the cooling is the same i.e. water.

Hi George,

I had assumed the same things, but I didn't see anywhere that looked like the two pieces were joined.  I was ready to be even more impressed in his machining skill if he managed to machine those water passages in a one piece housing :-)

I'm starting to get pissed (American, not Australian) at the whole gyrocopter community, and have almost decided to forget about building one.  I'm still unnaturally interested in playing with the single rotor engine though, so I'll continue messing with the one I have, using a test stand rather than an aircraft for now.  I just wish I had the ability and equipment to do serious machining.   I've got lots of wacky ideas, and enough housings to keep me busy for quite a while.

Maybe I can resist building anything else until a perfect LSA aircraft comes out.  An RV-12 might make a dandy single rotor platform :-)
