Latest software for the EC2 addresses this problem. If you
haven't upgraded since around Mar 2005, this is highly recommended.
In the mean time, I suggest 16 - 17" Hg for staging point.
Yes, changing staging point means you have to re-do the map table in
this area. In the mean time, If you are having this surge and have an
EM2, step to the map entry just above the staging point and richen it
and the next two about 30 - 40.
This problem is usually caused by the engine going lean right
after the staging point. You can do it without an EM2 but it requires
a bit of finesse. Turning up the mixture control will also eliminate
the surge but the engine will probably be running rich under the
staging point.

[FlyRotary] Re: damage report
Bill,
If/when you find a solution to the annoying surge during high
idle/taxi
let us all know what it is.
I too am experiencing this annoyance.
I think we need to set the staging point higher but have not
tried this yet.

Now that the engine is running correctly again, I have to
start all over again programming my EC2! That nasty crossover point at
15" MAP is giving me an annoying surge at a high idle (taxi) speed.
Hope a close reading of my manual will let me sort that out.
