I am back in the air again, and the idle is very smooth now!

On the oil jet subject, I installed stock jets with NO spring or ball.  I figured more oil would be a good thing for cooling.  NOW that it is done and running, I finally found the reference to why to reduce the jet size when the springs and balls are removed!  My oil pressure is running from about 25 psi at slow idle to 80-90 psi at high rpm (5000), so I am hoping the pump is keeping up.

Nothing blew up in the first 30 minutes, and the temps are OK, so more run-in time is in order prior to OSH.

Those of you who have reported coolant and oil temps in RVs with evaporator cores are right in line with my experience also.  Keeping temps below 200F with a warm engine departure and 95+ OAT does require reducing the throttle at a safe altitude and reducing climb rate to gain COOLING SPEED.  Temps are much easier for me to manage once I can indicate 130 - 140 mph.

Now that the engine is running correctly again, I have to start all over again programming my EC2!  That nasty crossover point at 15"  MAP is giving me an annoying surge at a high idle (taxi) speed.  Hope a close reading of my manual will let me sort that out.

(Confession)  During the rebuild, I think I found that the timing has been set at 25 BTDC instead of 35 BTDC!  This might explain why changing the timing with the EC2 never made any difference?  I also played with the thermal pellet some more, and I think finding it 1/2 open may have been an overstatement.  It may only have been open a small amount.  It is definitely plugged now.

Hope to see someone at OSH.  I'll be in the "auto-conversion" section Monday thru Wednesday.  Leave a card in my window and we'll talk!
