I used Pacific Oil Cooler Service to overhaul/clean/inspect my Mazda oil
cooler and they did a great job.  If you tell them it is an automobile
oil cooler and not an aircraft oil cooler, they will charge a lot less.
I paid $112 in 2001.

I've been trying to solve an oil cooling issue for the last 2 weeks.
Everything I do seems to make it worse:
1. I built a flow guide on the prop side of cowling (pusher) to prevent
back-flow into cowl. Temperatures worse - removed.
2. I cut a new hole and fabricated a new exit scoop on the bottom of the
cowl to add 20" of exit area- Temperatures the same to maybe even worse.
3. I created a new oil cooling intake scoop that is 3 times as large as
the
original bring the total oil intake area to about 20sq in. - no change -
maybe even worse.

So, I know I have plenty of exit and plenty of intake - what gives? AHA,
must be a flow problem into the oil cooler. I removed the thermostat -
just
sure that it would get better. Took a quick trip around the pattern
today
and it is definitely - WORSE.  How can this be?  Got down after my quick
trip around the pattern and put my hand on the end of the oil cooler
farthest from the inlet and outlets - cool to the touch - not even
warm!!
How can that be? The oil temperature is still reading 180 degrees after
it's
been shut down for 5 minutes!

Anyone have any ideas on how the check and clear a potentially clogged
