Seems to me that the intercooler should have no effect on the DIE (if it works with a turboed engine).... the intercooler is upstream of the throttle body and not part of the path of your FAW.  Based on all of what's been said about DIE it appears to me that it is defined by the intake runners and the chamber that mounts the throttle body, and doesn't go past the throttle body into the infeed of the intake system.  That puts the intercooler in non-FAW territory, doesn't it?
