I also believe part of the problem is that many of the bolts on the
engine are threaded in aluminum. It does not take much to strip the
threads. I was thinking the other day that if I was rebuilding the
engine, i would heli-coil every thread that goes into aluminum.
specialy the oil pan mount engines.

Not necessary if you watch your torque! Check the values and use them. AND
use some lub to keep the bolts from freezing in the Alu. Keep the heli-coils
for repairs!
Oilpan should have to come off a lot.....
