Group,
After reading the flight test article between two Lycoming and two Powersport
powered RV-8's one would be lead to believe that there is a great disparity between
the Lycoming and the Rotary in fuel consumption.........Someone correct me if I
am wrong but it is my understanding that the so called single lever engine control
system of the Powersport engine lacks a pilot controlled leaning system and runs
the engine at a "one size fits all situations" air/fuel mixture which those of us on this
list know is neither optimized for best power nor leaning........
This situation would seem to call for educating some people with some "Real
World Information" about fuel consumption of the Rotary from those of the group that are now flying with an EFI (Tracy's EC-2) that allows full mixture control !!
The question is can we at the grassroots level have our collective voices heard
and command a glossy and flashy seven page article to present our side of the
story (heck even a couple of pages) ? Tracy was mentioned in what almost
sounded like a slap as "Bragging his engine cost less than his headset".......The
problem with that is that it was true !! IMHO
(Rant Over)
