Hi Rusty,
Six weeks ago I began a one week project to change the oil cooler system on the RV-3. Wanted to remove
the large oil cooler, install one about 60 percent as
large(RX-7 oil cooler) and redo the ducting for water,
oil and engine air. While I was at it I decided to
send Tracy my EM2 to have him change the display to
the LCD display. Now I will not have to fly into the
sun to gather flight test data! All of the planets and moons lined up today and I was
able to do an extended ground run. Unfortunately, I
did not make a similar run on the old setup before dis
assembly to compare with but I am pleased that the
temps will cool at lower RPM after a power run. Maybe
you can remember some similer ground runs, Rusty. The OAT was 69F today. Wind calm. I ran the engine at
2350 for 10 minutes and the oil and water temps both
finally stabilized at 170F. Went to 4550 for four
minutes. Temps went to 190F but probably had not
stabilized. Pulled back to 2550 and in about 3
minutes the temps were down to 175. Full throttle
gave 6359 rpm. Let it cool down to 170 again and shut
down. Have small oil leak and two hot spots on the
cowl. Should have those fixed by noon tomorrow and
then off into the blue.
Some photos attached.
Regards,Rich
