Before risking a trip near the meat grinder, always try the Mode 8 ignition timing adjustment.  You can move the timing up to + or - 10 degrees from the comfort of the cockpit.

Maintaining high rpm on the ground can obviously be a problem for cooling.
Would you advise doing this while airborne, circling the field at 6000'?
