Yes, the oil from the RD-1x is definitely churned, as is the cooling oil
from the rotors. An oil/air separator plate above the pan is highly
recommended. See Racing Beat tech manual/catalog (the quickest education
on rotaries you can find) for details. The engine
mounting plate in the CC engine mount serves this purpose as well.
A separate oil system is fine but does add some weight & complexity
which I avoid whenever possible. There may be a longer TBO with the
separate oil system used with gear oil but I accept the shorter life span of the
gears (which are relatively cheap). To keep this in perspective, I have
not yet seen a worn out set of gears. At 800 hours on my first set
there was no visible wear. My sincere hope is to wear out many sets :

Hi George,
I was under the impression that the RD's need
full oil pressure (60-80 psi). Does the Pegasus put out that kind of
pressure? Also, how large is the reservoir you're using? I was
thinking about using a separate oil system for my RD-1C, but finally
decided I didn't need another device drawing current, besides the engine
oil connection was simpler. :)

Perhaps it might be prudent to use a separate oil system for the
turbocharger. > I have one on my gearbox, which consists of

It seems to work very well and is not very heavy. >
