I was using "approved" 5 gallon plastic gasoline containers hauling Auto Gas when static electricity ignited, the funnel I was holding, the 5 gallon container, my wing tank, the tarmac, etc. Fortunately, got them all out without damage to me (other than jangled nerves) or the aircraft, but swore off plastic containers from that point on. Do yourself a favor and use metal containers and make certain they are grounded to the aircraft..
