Just to chip in my 2 cents here.. keep in mind that transporting on public roads more than 55 gallons (or perhaps 60..) of hazardous material (such as gas, diesel, jet A) LEGALLY requires placarding, a commercial drivers license with a haz-mat endorsement and commercial vehicle insurance. Do I expect everyone here to run right out and do that? Not hardly, but be aware of the consequences of your actions. I believe this is federally regulated material. The saddle tanks are excluded from this ON THE BIG RIGS because they are plumbed into the vehicle fuel system. Big "aux fuel" tank is ok.. Big "transfer tank" is not, without jumping through hoops.
Also, the diesel tanks are vented (allegedly) such that the air/fuel mixture in the airspaces of the tank never reach a combustible mixture (always too lean).. whereas I've been told that gasoline tanks are vented such that the same airspace also is unable to burn.. but by staying too rich... Will it bite you? probably not. But do your own homework and make an informed decision
