You could take off the flexplate and weight and try a flywheel, it won't be right but it may give you some indication of the effectiveness of smoothing out the torque pulses.

Not a bad thought George.  The built in counter weight would be on the right side of the shaft, but just not enough of it.  The other side could be lightened to make it balance, but this would all take way more time that I need to be spending on this.  I'll file it away as a future science project.

PS-  A Piper landed on highway 98, just a few miles from my house today.  It sounds like it hit a jeep on rollout (slide-out), but no one was hurt in the plane or jeep.   I wonder why he didn't put the gear down.  Nice picture online.   http://snipurl.com/lryk
