I think it was probably about ¾” hole. The unit came with fairly heavy gasket washers for both sides of the container wall.  My container is about 3 ½” dia, and fairly thin walled, so it did flatten just a bit to help the seal.

Thanks Al, I was looking on McMaster Carr also, and they all seemed a little bulky. How big a hole was needed in your reservoir? My reservoir is made of 3"OD aluminum tubing.

What sensor are you using for liquid level? Source?

I got the sensor from Mcmaster-Carr, but I am unable to find my receipt, and looking on their web site I was not able to find it.  Apparently they no longer carry it.  It mounts in horizontally, but has a 90 degree bend and magnet/float that moves vertically.  It is a magnetic reed switch, made of blue nylon good to 300+ F.
