It came up into my conciousness after a flight last
month. I went out to shoot some approaches with an instructor, and then did some
night take off and landings. Dropped him off at one airport, and then flew
to the home base. With all the activity, etc. It was always busy when I thought
to switch tanks -- and I flew longer than prudent on the one tank (Archer). when
I landed and went to the fuel pump I found out that I probably only had 20 min
of fuel left in the tank, with 2 hours worth in the other tank.
Brought home the idea of fuel management and
'usable' fuel to me rather forcefully.

lines
I was wondering about the returning it to
the far end of the tank, I believe that in my configuration, (long skinny tank
in leading edge) there would be some 'hangup ' of fuel that is returned and
has to flow back down the tank to the pickup bay. I haven't decided on what to
do yet.
Hi Bill,
That's a good point, but would only be in issue if
you ran your tank down to fumes. None of us plans to do that of course,
but it's still a significant point to consider in case we find we aren't
perfect some day :-)
