RE: [FlyRotary] Re: turbo wastegate requirements

    What would enlarging the wastegate involve?  Probably a MAJOR mod for little benefit.

Hi Jim;
        I have a series IV turbo which had a laughably small wastegate. I was shocked to see the port was about the size of a dime and bored straight through. The "gate" is about the size of a dollar coin (a Loonie for us Canucks:-), so I enlarged this port to within 1mm of the gate circumference. I also ported the inside (upstream) edges of the port as well to provide a better flow path. It wasn't really that hard to do, taking a little more than an hour and it doubled the area of the port.

        As I never ran the engine before doing this I can't really say that I can tell a difference, and since I've also not run with full boost for extended periods (yet), I also can't say if it will prevent boost creep, but it certainly couldn't hurt.
