Interesting point, Ed. Perhaps the ideal cooling system design looses
ground during the initial take-off and climb phase. You'd take off on full
power with temps low and back off on the throttle if you get to the max temp
limit before reaching enough speed to cool the full load. Once you're up to
speed, then you can cruise with minimum drag.
