keep them in the airplane. =20

One question on the ATF.  What brand did you use?  Was it synthetic?
Here in Austin, Texas we've seen +115*, but never -15*.

	The seals in the brake callipers and cylinders are just Buna
O-rings and
are very easy to change. Viton O-rings are much better and resilient to
chemicals and can be found cheaply at any hydraulic shop or various
other
places (automotive?) I don't remember the sizes off hand but they can be
found on Cleveland's web site. If you need I can try to find this info.
Buy
a spare set for your tool box, as I once read that the most common
repair
done by the emergency aircraft repair crew at Oshkosh was leaking Buna
O-rings on brake calliper pistons.
	I tried using ATF, as I'd also read good reports on it, however
recently I
had to fill the system after changing the tires & brakes and found that
it
was impossible to fill the system at -15C, so with great difficulty I
purged
and flushed the ATF out of the system and am now using DOT5. ATF may be
suitable for use in warmer climates, but didn't cut it up here in the
frozen
north.

Sorry if my response sounded kurt.  It wasn't meant to be.  I've never
had my calipers or master cylinders apart and I just don't know exactly
what's inside or what material the seals are made from.  Maybe someone
else knows, or I'll check with Cleveland and see if they can tell me.
Since my brakes are Cleveland, the o-rings may be made of a different
material from yours.  Supposedly, Mobile 1 ATF is the same as the Mobile
1, except it has been colored to resemble ATF.  If that's true, and
considering that Mobile 1 is compatible with the seals and o-rings used
in automobile engines, then it would really surprise me if it wasn't
compatible with the brake o-rings too.  I need to do some more digging
here.

Matco brakes use BunaN seals (I'm pretty sure I'm remembering that
correctly), but I don't think that is a universal material.  Mine are
brand new, and I don't fancy ripping them apart to replace brand new
seals.  Matco recommends the flammible stuff, or the 83282A (which I
think will be good enough).
