Hi Steve;
    I also have Van's cap. probes and I find that the calibration does fluctuate from different batches of autofuel, but empty always seems accurate. I've bought large quantities of fuel when doing my initial testing and found that when calibrated they would remain accurate as long as I used that batch of fuel, but as soon as a new batch was used, they would suddenly be out of calibration. However as the tank neared to empty accuracy would improve and when the gauge read zero I would have ~1litre remaining ( I have multiple tanks so I can run tanks dry)
    I've always assumed that Avgas, being held to a higher standard, would produce more repeatable results, but I just can't justify the cost, so I've never used it.
