The MicroTech setup manual says to set the idle timing to 5Deg ATDC – it also says that is the yellow mark on the pulley). 

 

They're probably right :-)  At some point, you'll want to verify that the MicroTech is advancing the timing properly at higher rpms, but if the only timing adjustment they gave was at idle, then I'd bet a few beers it's going to be right everywhere.

Yep, MicroTech has a “Timing Lock” feature that you turn on when you are setting up the 5Deg ATDC so it doesn’t mess with any advance/retard while you’re manually setting the timing.  Then, of course, they tell you to turn off the “lock” and rev the engine to confirm advance is taking place.  So, that’s what I’ll do.
