housings was Re: Shady Bend Report
I don't think he was quite to that point - but very
close. He had a casting of the metal insert for the wear surface of the
side housing and the mold for the aluminum casting that the insert would bolt
to. Looks like he had solved the coolant sealing challenge between the
insert and the aluminum plate. Sort of nice in that if the wearing
surface becomes too worn to redo - simply unbolt it and bolt in a new
one.
Hey
Richard,
Are you
working toward producing these for sale? Do you know when you'll be up
and running with the new housings?
There are a few planes
that can accept a single rotor as is, but I think we're going to need aluminum
housings to ever make it into the mainstream. I had always hoped Racing
Beat would finally get theirs done, but I've all but given up hope on them
now.
Thanks,
Rusty

Hi
Rusty,
Yes, I
would like to have it manufactured and sell it. However, there is more to it
than just the housing. I changed lots of things for weight saving.
the E-Shaft
is different from other one rotors. The PTO-side bearing is direct in the
housing and the output is a 30MM 10:1 taper, just like on a Rotax. There is no
room for any MAZDA counterweight or ring gear. I have a flywheel with
integrated balancing and a 10" ring gear on it.
The PTO
side housing should be running in 6 month.
