The I/C's I mentioned earlier are still on ebay, P/N ULN2429A, ebay

no. 7545438956, or search on "fluid level sensors".  

Thanx for the info Marc. But right now I have more projects than I can
deal with.  So, for now, I'm sticking with the stock idiot light oil
level sensor.  At some point, though, I do want to get a real level
sensor for both water and oil.  This may be the way to go (although
I'm a bit "electronics" challenged - though I can follow
instructions!).
