Rusty, that would be great if you could weigh at least the
front counter weights, rear would be awesome too. That is really a bunch
of data that we should have as a group.
Hi
Dave,
This won't be
as useful as it could be I'm afraid. I believe I took the known S4
front cw to the hanger, so I don't have it hear to weight. I
have what I believe to be an S3 front cw. It came with the Ebay
single rotor engine, which had S3 housings, and it also has "S3 1.00" stamped on
it. The other cw came with 9.7 rotors, so I "assume" it's an S5.
There is no rear automatic cw in the attic I'm
afraid.
In the pics,
the S3 is on the left, and the S5 is on the right. Note that the
outer ring of the two are not the same
thickness.
S3- 44.9
oz / ring measures 1.05" thick
S5- 42.0
oz / ring measures 0.91" thick
I can check
the S4, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to get by the hanger to grab
it.
As Tracy
noted, and as I'm sure you're aware, total weight doesn't mean anything, unless
Mazda only changed the outer ring size. As you can see from the two pics,
they changed the shape slightly between the S3 and S5. Perhaps there's
a visual way to tell the difference, rather than just by weight. This
would probably be something Leon, Lynn, or Bruce could
answer.
BTW, do you
have your old engine apart now? If so, what did you
find?
Good
luck,
Rusty
