There are some advantages, like when not under boost you will get a bit more power and efficiency with the higher compression rotors.  Also, using high compression pistons starts the power level at a higher point and the intake charge is not heated as much with the lower boost levels.  As you are aware, ignition timing, fuel ratio, intercooler and limiting boost  (and perhaps a knock sensor) will all help prevent detonation.
 
 
Also, better low boost or no boost throttle response.
