I am considering installing high compression rotors in the engine that I am currently building up.
Dave,
My REW engine has high compression rotors on the recommendation of the rotary race guy who built it. Later I had a long discussion with Leon and a few other rotary experts about what max boost limit to set. As I understand it, the engine will perform significantly better with the high compression rotors (read more HP) and, as with the standard rotors, detonatation can be avoided with the right timing, mixture and intake temp. Based on the input I received I've been keeping my boost at around 46 MAP on take-off and climb. I once tried 44 MAP at 11,000', then throttled back as the GPS hit 235 kts ground speed :). Most of the time I cruise at around 34 - 38 MAP. I have 43 hours on it now and the engine seems to be holding together. I have 3mm apex seals which may help.
That's my experience, for what it's worth.
Regards,
John
