The knocks against alcohol for potential damage to engines/fuel system components is deja vu to unleaded gas in the '70s. Anybody having problems with no-lead gas in their cars today?

Charlie, When the changeover was made there were indeed problems in older cars. The problems with alcohol fuels are REAL. Much more than unleaded gasoline. The fact that alcohol has undesired solvent action is totally REAL, tested and non-anecdotal! The SAAB may be tuned for alcohol and with really high compression there is power to be made. The dragsters you mentioned weren't too interested in mileage! But probably used twice the fuel of the gas counterparts. Aircraft certainly can be made to run on this fuel, there is no question. But there are VERY REAL PROBLEMS and all the testing you see is paid for by one or another states corn council. I would love to have available a fuel alternate and a bio-friendly one as well, but read more into what is not being said. Inquire about the mileage on one of the STC aircraft. Better yet pull up one of the STC's and check what they had to do to get the plane to run well on alcohol. It won't be as simple as you think.
