I hung (hanged???) my engine from the ceiling with a turnbuckle at each corner then positioned the firewall for the correct thrust line.  The turnbuckles allowed me to make small changes to the engine position to fine tune the thrust line.   I then placed the exhaust, oil cooler and radiator in appropriate positions and built the motor mount around every thing else.  Note that a RV-4 doesn't have much space under the cowl.  Pictures are attached for the new guys.
