Greetings,
I finally decided what to
try next on my fuel transfer problem. Since I like the simple "Tracy"
system of having one fuel tank to feed, and the other for transferring fuel to
the feed tank, I ordered a different pump to see if it transfers better than the
Facet I was using.
What I ordered was a
Carter, P4594 (Summit part number CRT-P4594). This "appears" to be
about the same size as the Facet, but has an 8 psi maximum pressure, and is a
positive displacement pump, rather than a noisy thumper like the Facet.
Supposedly, it will flow 72 gph under ideal conditions. I'm confident it
will work better than the Facet, and at the very least, it won't make such an
annoying noise :-)
I'm also thinking very
seriously about adding a flow sensor in a T as Todd suggested, at the input of
the pump. That way I'd know when the tank was empty, and when to turn the
transfer pump off. I could use the sensor as a control for
turning the pump off automatically. I could even put another sensor on the
fuel vent line of the feed tank, and have it shut the transfer pump off if that
tank were overfilled. The sensors can't do this directly, but could be
made to control a relay.
The pump will be here
tomorrow, and I may install it this weekend. Need to fly off some of the
fuel first, so I can empty the left tank.
Cheers,
Rusty
