What is the difference in the 4 port and 6 port Renesis, and why should I choose the one that I should choose?

Hi Bill,

The 6 port engine is literally two extra intake ports, that are opened and closed by a sadistic array of gizmos on the stock intake.  For our purposes, it's unlikely these will be controlled, but rather left open.  Bottom line, the 6 port can have more intake porting area (think larger or a higher number of valves on a piston engine).  Even in the stock engine, I don't believe the extra ports are opened until something like 8000 rpm,  so there's reason to believe we don't need the extra ports at our rpms.  There's certainly still debate on this, so don't feel bad if you don't know which one to choose.

What does P Port mean and how is it different from the normal port?  Does the Renesis (either one) have a P Port and should it be modified to have one put in it?

As John explained, it's a peripheral port, which uses a big hole in the side of the rotor housing as an inlet, rather than the 4 or 6 ports were were just discussing.  I firmly believe that p-ports have more negatives than positives for our usage, and no one that I've heard of has actually done a p-port on a Renesis, though I'm sure someone will :-)

I would like to build a plane and fly it.  Low on the build and high on the fly part.  I am not interested in doing R&D or starting a business building parts.

An honest understanding of your goals puts you ahead of a lot of folks already.  My advice would be to follow as closely as possible to what folks like Tracy, Ed, and Bill Eslick are doing.  If you want a near guarantee, buy your engine from Bruce Turrentine, EC-2 and EM-2, and RD-1C redrive from Tracy, motor mount from CCI, and hope the prefabbed intakes and exhaust systems appear before you need them.  Cooling, fuel systems, etc will come naturally when you read a few thousand emails :-)

I know that this sound really critical, but I don't mean it to be.

Honest questions and concerns are not a problem here.  Ask anything you need to.

Cheers,
