Cutting threads
is not the same as rolling threads. On high-strength bolts, they roll the
threads on because it is much stronger than cutting the
threads.
Probably the
right way to do this is to get the right length high-strength bolts or to get
studs the correct length.

All true of course, but
not easily available as far as I can tell. Fortunately, I came across a
set of custom made bolts before I had to do any significant research on finding
an off the shelf bolt for this. One of my projects will be measure the
bolts, and threads, so I can see what might be available. I do believe a
rethreaded 12A bolt would be fine though.
